Free Credit Reports

by: .gov Consumer Information

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you have the right to get a free credit report.  The FCRA requires the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and Trans Union, to give you a free credit report once every 12 months.

To order your free annual disclosure, mail your request to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, PO Box 105821, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

You can get all 3 credit reports, or you can elect to get them from the credit reporting agencies one at a time.  Do not order your credit report on line because some of the credit reporting agencies require you to agree to arbitration to get access to a credit report online.

Do NOT get your reports from the third party monitoring services! They often have wrong information and are NOT subject to the FCRA.  Some sites are owned by the credit reporting agencies. Experian owns FreeCreditReport.com and FreeCreditScore.com.  These sites want to have you sign up for your free report or sign you up for credit monitoring.
